Just started recently 526 BAE Hemi 18-71 M5 Mag 44, power grid ignition. I start it with 24 volts and the cranking speed is very high. I checked everywhere for voltage drop during cranking, unplug the MSD grid and plugged the Mag back into it self eliminating all of the MSD grid stuff. I thought it might be the colder weather I tried to prime it with Gasoline instead of Alcohol all test same result. Here's what happens, while cranking no start repeat cranking again no start and soon as I let off the starter it fires and runs fine. Its either colder weather (doubt it 60 degrees not that cold) or something is going on in my points box or Mag 44. anybody experience this. Note: after I run it for a while and turn it off it fires right back up but if it sits for a while I gota prime it crank it and let off the starter and it fires.

60 degrees is right at the point you need a 50/50 mix of gasoline and methanol. If you have a crank trigger then what is the air gap set at?

Just curious, what is the timing when you start on the mag only? 100% gas in small quantities starts them for us.

do you have one of those switches that automatically switches from the mag (while cranking)to crank trigger after starts up? I had the same problem and removed the auto switch and it starts just fine on the crank trigger..

Is this with a blower drive starter or flywheel starter?

We had a coil like that! pull wires and nothing then it would light.

@ Mike I plugged the Mag back into itself so I eliminate the trigger.

    @ AJ481x 25 degrees like always

@ Bruce No switch I just manually plug to Mag back into itself.

If it starts OK when the temps are above 70 degrees and will not start when it is 60 degrees the use a 50/50 mix of gas and methanol like the rest of us do and don't complicate things

I have to ask, with a 18-71 and 24 volts --- just exactly how do you achieve a high starting rpm ?? Blower starter or block starter ?
