    hi all
i recently switched from 15X15 wheels with screwed tires to 16X16 beadlocks and i now have a clearance problem as the beadlock rings hits the brake calipers.
so i guess i have to move the calipers toward the axle centerline,or buy smaller ones.
my rearend is a solid mounted dana 60 with floater axles, and the current calipers are of unknown brand and seem to have been ground slightly already:any suggestion as to the best way to solve my problem?brand names suggestions for replacement?
car is an altered with no brakes at the front wheels and dual chutes.
i also would like to know for my personal knowledge what mostly dictates the use of floater axles:is it a question of class rules,an engine power/car weight level at which a driver/car builder considers it is safer to run floater axles? both?
thank you in advance for any answers to both questions

I had the same problem with a set of beadlocks hitting my Mark Williams brake calipers, I took the wheel...less tires...to my machine shop guy and he milled off a little of the beadlock ring to gain enough clearance.

Cyril; noticing that you are from France and it's probably an older car because of the Dana 60, the problem might be hard to tell who's floater kit is on there.
A picture may help identify. Most disc diameters are 11", but a lot of the older calipers were taller than most today, for this very reason.
I suggest Strange Eng. brake kit for most, and can be found at strangeengineering.net
You may be able to find demensions there to compare what you have.
As far as floater axles, my personal thought is they should be used with anything quicker than 7 seconds, or with any tire wider than 10". If the axle shafts are over 100 runs old, change them NOW !
    I've seen to many tears......

jody, bob, thanks a lot for your input!
my chassis is a 70s funny car, with a torsion front suspension,118 in wheelbase, that is said to be from the logghe bros company.
as far as i know,it was first raced on nitro with a hemi and a plymouth satellite body, then it was sold with a topolino body, and raced with an injected BBC/glide on alky, and i bought it as a roller in michigan, with a blown injected hemi and lenco/clutch to go back in,so i guess a brake update/upgrade in the smartest move,as well as changing the axles(til now,i thought floater axles did not need to be changed!)
i have pics of my current calipers but i am still unable to post them...:(
    thanks again for your help

Cyril; send me the pics and I'll see if I can help. If it's a Logghe, it would not suprise me that they are very early Strange spindles/brakes with H&H floating calipers (no longer in business- done in the "70's)

I have a similiar setup, mine is Summers Brothers (they are still in business) with JFZ brakes. Summers Brothers rebuilt the floater assemblies for me.
Let me know if you need bearings for the floaters, I found the on the web extremely cheap.

thanks a lot for your offer!
Bob MEYER found what my setup is from pics i sent him(early stange spindles,H&H calipers) and will see with STRANGE what is needed to replace the calipers, and other components if necessary.
