Made a change with the fuel sytem. Old set up on my KB hemi was an old Cragar Cast aluminum intake, 1471 Hi helix (37%), bird catcher (hat nozzles only 62's), square style barrel valve. So I thought I would try something new to try to run a little stronger. I put a sheet metal intake, 1471 hi helix (44%), Geradot hat (5 1/2" blades) with a max injector spacer, I think it's 4" up and 4" forward, went to port nozzles and K valve. With the old set up my ride would pull hard all the way down the track. Now between 1/2 and 3/4 track it just quits pulling and is on a sunday drive, so they go around me. I run a bruno-lenco so I just had the convertor checked out before the changes. Confused? Any ideals? Oh making 30lbs of boost at 7,000.

Before the smart guys who hang out here get back from church or actually racing today let me ask a few questions. What fuel pump are you using and what size jets, hi-speed, fuel pressure etc. and what type of ignition ? Describe the plugs and bearings. I don't think the hat will matter as the blower will find the right amount of air.

I have a Hilborn PG 175B-4 (17.16 gpm at 4,000 from RBS)on it now. Timing is at 36, 110 main, 70 high speed, 90 pump saver. Hat nozzles are 62's and ports are 52,54,56,60. Super mag 5 from Spud that just was redone. Thinking about going back to my smaller hilborn (12.4 gpm) take the high speed and pump saver off and try about a 70 in the main. By the way I only run a 250 dirt/sand track.

It's not your hat. Once you are WOT the heads/valves become the next cork. That hasn't changed but your tuneup has as you are pondering.

Im not going to claim to be an expert tuner, I still have a bunch to learn... but that seems like a whole lot of fuel.

    Nozzle Area?

Seems to me that if the nozzle area of the hat nozzles let the engine pull well, then wouldn't adding port nozzles make the A/F too rich? Also seems like a racer might want to adjust the nozzles to come up with a proportional nozzle area similar to what it was with just hat nozzles. Alcohol is not like nitro. More fuel is not always better.
