question on used main billet caps

    hi wanted to know how to check them when buying used main BAE billet caps to find out if they are any good still. before sending the funds thx guys.

    You would need to have the caps torqued down in the block and checked with a dial bore indicator. Because they are not a match to your block typically you will need a line bore for them to work anyways,..Look for cracks around the side and main holes, and also excessive chatter/ or walking marks on the registers that may have came from a loose cap or excessive shake. also you can check the threads for the slide hammer to see how well they took care in removing / on/off the caps for service.

    thx vic, but is there any way to measure from the bottom of the cap to the top of the cap where the bearings lays on it. what would a new 1 measure or you only can measure it in a block bolted down. thx PS some oldies pics http://www.pbase.com/nitroimage/sir_archives

    You would need to call Brads for that info, eitherway you are still looking at needing to have a crank line bore done with all the main caps torqued down to have a really true main line.

    thx vic, just dont want to buy burnt out caps. cause have those already, just trying to avoid another bad caps purchase and then bolt them out only to find out, they were no better than mine. thx rob

    hi would anybody know the measurement of a new cap bottom of the cap to the bottom of the bearing saddle. to measure the used set I found to see if they are still usable? thx :cool:

    Why don't you just skim the cap. Plenty of people do. And you will have the caps off every 5-10 passes so it won't weld itself together. Or if it really bothers you reanodize the cap and go from there. Buying everybody just caps is a waste of your time and money. There is better ways to spend good money rather than buy blown up caps. There is a reason theyre for sale.
