After a long drug out divorce I have my dragster back. I put it together as I have a 100 times, but this time it did not start. I am pretty good at this. But there is no spark from the MSD 12. I check all the relays and connection between the black and orange wires.

They are open when the switch is on and close when off.

The mag turns and everything is as it was 2 years ago.

Will the mag go dead from setting like the old mag 4's and how can I check the box? I do have another box to swap out but ran out of time. Can stuff just go bad setting?

    Thanks
    Bob

Bob, no the mag does not go bad from sitting around like the old mags. The big requirement for these mags to generate spark is to spin over fast enough on the starter. One thing you might want to try is to pull out all the sparkplugs then spin it over and check for spark. If no spark then the first thing I would jump on is the Points Box.

Agree with Mike, think they need minimum of 250rpm to fire.

Does it use a crank trigger?

    Is the blower fresh/tight?

We use 48 volts/rcd starter to start our motor

That said we have had a points box fail without ANY signs, so worth keeping in mind too.

Had a Points Box fail without warning at ADRL St Louis last weekend in the semi-finals. Car started OK and Adam came into the water and tried to bring up the RPM and it sounded like it was on a 2000 rpm Two Step. Very disappointing. Yes they can just fail. Sent the Box to Dave Leahy for repairs. Generators normally do not fail but coils, coil wire and Points Box sure do.
