Dragster body weight help

    Hi, I have a 285" WB Dragster with an aluminum body and rear wing, it has a fiberglass front wing with moly tubing.

    Any idea how much lighter a mag body is vs the aluminum? also 1 piece carbon?

    Aluminum body weight will vary on thickness and grade of aluminum. A body made from .040 can be nearly a third heavier than one in .032. Amount of panels (overlap) and fasteners also will ad weight.
    Mag bodies are probably the lightest. But you would need to find the "right" material, and be capable of fabricating and mounting properly. Otherwise you will have a very expensive disaster on your hands.
    I have built cars for people that had Carbon Bodies on there previous cars. "My" Aluminum bodied cars have all come in lighter. Car, Body or combination of both, I don't know. Also most Carbon bodies are purpose built for a manufacturers specific chassis. So finding one that fits your car may be an issue.

    My Spitzer carbon body on a 272 in car weighs appox 30 lbs. I can remove and put back on by myself. However.....last I heard Spitzer will not sell a body to go on a non Spitzer chassis. Arron Sipple at Iron Man Chassis will sell you a body alone. My last car a 225 in FED had .032 alum. body panels. When I removed the panel from the motor foward to the nose and weighed, they totaled appox. 35 lbs.....with 13 coats of candy paint. My carbon body has no paint on it to add to weight.
