Some of my wrenches got magnetized. They are not my good snap-on's. but we do use them alot. My question is how do I de- Mag. them, or just take them out of the trailer and use them for something else. Maybe Mike Canter can help. I think he was a aircraft Mechanic. Thank you Don

I 'think' with heat as it alters the metal structure again

But as I say, I think.

    Demagnetize wrenches

Try dropping the wrenches on a concrete floor. Many times the shock will realign the iconic structure. I've had success with this method after leaving tools in a magnetic tool tray over time.

If that don't work then you need a large magnet and you rub the wrenches in a circular motion across the magnet. If you pull the wrench across the magnet in a straight direction it will magnetise it

    use welder

you can demag using your tig welder.
    1 ti wrap wrenches together
2 roll ground lead into a coil and ground to table
3 place welder on ac and start welding a scrap piece of aluminum
4 while welding have someone take bundle of wrenches and pass in and out of spooled up ground cable slowly.
i have also used this method on crankshafts before we had a mag machine.

Ron has the idea.. Nine times out of ten a sharp hit on a steel bench or on the vise will sort it out. In my experience tools that become magnetized can usually be sorted out with this method.. And it's free

Most all machine shops have demagnatizers. Go to your local shop, the guys will do it for you.

    Yeah, what spitzerscott said.
We have one in our shop, a Goodson small parts demagnetizer.
    Part # SPD-46 ($67.99).
Big enough to do a steel rod on.
    Thanks,
    KG
