    Hey guys,

I'm just weighing some options and am now very confused. Anyone who runs Top alcohol in division 2 and has attended a lot of these races please chime in. I am out of Florida and have been considering putting a screw on my dragster to run division 2. My question is how many Division 2 races do the top alcohol cars have now? Also what is the deal with this new regionals thing? I've heard only 1 regional in my area. I also noticed that the Top alcohol cars didn't run at the Southern Nationals in Commerce, GA, whats up with that?

Not looking to start a war just needing facts about how many races I would be able to attend if I go the NHRA route. If I keep the roots I know of a heads up group out of TN, and a group out of FL that I could run with. I think Earth shaking entertainment (Jagger Naves) could be a possibility too.

Does anyone know of any other roots blown alky heads up races in the southeast that I could run?

E-mail or calling is best as its hard to check my pms where I'm at.

Thanks for any and all help,
    Trevor Sherwood

I hate to say it but Top Alcohol racing in Div 2 is dead. 1 regional race a year and the Gators is all that's left. Hopefully Rich can get somehting back to places like Atlanta or Charlotte but I'm not hopeful. Disappointing as I ran TAFC in Div 2 for 17 years.

    Thanks guys

    Thanks guy,

Its a shame as I'm not a bracket guy and would love to compete on a large stage.

The Pro Top Outlaws is the place in TN I was mentioning and the Open Outlaws in Florida is the other. My friend Jim Kyle runs with the Pro Top guys. There was a place in GA a while back, extreme 660 or something like that. Anyone know if thats still around?

    Thanks for the replies guys,

Best wishes to you Mark and I hope you can find a place to keep that funny alive, I remember watching you race a few times.

We have a race in Dorchester SC ( near Charleston SC) on Sunday April 27, then another on Sat. June 9 at Piedomont NC ( near Greensboro NC). Then another race at Dorchester on Labor Day weekend (Sunday). Dorchester to Florida (Jacksonville) maybe 3 or 4 hours.

Not to sound condescending, but when was Alcohol racing on Div. 2 good? Have they ever had 8 FC's at a Div. race? Why would Jay Payne and Dwayne Shields claim that division 2,000 miles away for any other reason that it was easy Pickens!

    early to mid 2000's...

When we won D2 TAD with Jason Cannon's car, we beat Tony Bartone, Guy Kelly, John Haley and others. A couple of years ago D2 TAFC was Payne, Billington, Ferro and DeJoria. It hasn't been huge quantity in a long time, but there has been many years where there was plenty of quality.

Outlaw Pro Mod racing is pretty big there....in other parts of the country where the Pro Mod scene is not as prevalent, many of those Pro Mod owners would probably be Top Alcohol racers, if they wasn't in years gone by.

Or the 1970's. Pro Comp would draw 20-30 cars for a Divisional 8-car field. Most cars really from D-2. Folks like the Gwynns, Finlay, Amos, Kell, Woosley, Stratman, Boutillier, Richardson, Powley, Henderson, and on.... Oops, different era... Regards, Chase

    Easy Pickens...Really????

Not too many years ago we pulled in to the later Gainesville Div and ran into Ferro, Snyder, Cheeseman, Billington...and other local cars...

Let me see here....5.50 car, 5.50 car, 5.50 car, 5.50 car....and a host of locals that if you shake at all they can kick your ass just as easily....there were 7-8 cars there....

Someone had better get their memories straight or build a car and come on down if they think that is easy pickens...

    Division 2 cars

I loved the division 2 races, I watched Mark Billington, Alexis Dejoria, Chris Hool, Micky Ferro and others run some very impressive numbers. Lets not forget Gainesville is a great track capable of supporting new world records when the weather is good. I hate to see it go downhill because I enjoy watching the top alcohol cars more than the fuel guys.

If I hit the lotto I would love to start a promotion similar to the ADRL with alky cars being the top classes.

-Pro mod (since the screw guys have ADRL) Roots blown alky, could also allow a-fuel, turbo setups, NOS setups, and possibly mountain motors. (There would of coarse have to be weight breaks and rules to keep it even)

-Roots blown alcohol and A-fuel altereds, possibly allowing roots blown dragsters with an o.d. limit to keep the lighter cars on par with the others. Possibly even throw the roots TAFCs in there as well. This would give the Top Dragsters a place to run heads up

-Unlimited TAFC class with no rules save maybe a weight minumum and no nitro, this would allow C rotor blowers, clutch management, fuel chilling ect....I would think 5.20's would be possible after a little bit.

-Unlimited TAD, A fuel vs. Blown alky just like the funny car class. 5.0s....

All classes would have a fair weight break for converter cars.

For filler 2 or 3 classes of heads up door cars using a system of weight vs. cid and rules to keep the expenses down to allow normal non wealthy folks to compete at a heads up level. I can only imagine what the car count would be and how much the tech cards would help cover the other classes..... , NA stock type block and heads, Maybe a Power adder version of that class, and then a class featuring 650 inch motors or less, Blown gas, and NOS motors.

There could also be some unlimited NOS classes or mix them in accordingly with the other classes so they could be competitive

It would take a lot to get it going but from a racer or fan stand point I would love to see something like this.....I think it would serve some very important purposes.

    1. The heads up door cars would bring drag racing back to its run what ya brung roots as well as possibly getting some people who didnt have an interest in running brackets into building cars to compete. I can imagine a lot of people would want to watch their friends compete and would attend driving up ticket/concession sales.

2.The roots classes would allow for a lot of Top Dragster guys to compete heads up and would also get several teams who used to run IHRA TAFC back into the mix.

3.The outlaw top classes would bring innovation and high speeds/low e.t.s to the alcohol classes as well as giving them an alternative to the NHRA. Being a pro class and if you got some good television coverage I could see sponsors getting more interested and involved in the alky cars. Think same coverage as Top Fuel but a lot smaller investment. Another good thing would be that these cars would run very close to the top fuel guys. Possibly a weight break for the D rotor guys to get more existing cars to attend.

Its just a thought but I think it would be cool and it might bring drag racing to a whole new level. This would be hard to do but what does everyone think about the idea?

    Thanks,
    Trevor Sherwood
