rod side play

    hi all!
    i m building a blown and alcohol injected mopar wedge engine,using a used KB crank and BME hemi aluminum rods.i end up with 0.058 in side play at the rod journal,is this ok?

    could call BME
    I beleive the instruction sheets that came with our BME rods said min .030", I'll try to remember to look tonight

    the "problem" was,we thought that was too much!:p
    i ll call BME and ask them what the max clearance should be.

    We have over .070 side clearance per pair.

    called BME:0.058 side clearance is fine.
    did not say anything about max clearance,but as long as my engine is happy with those numbers,so am i!

    Just make sure you check at both the bottom of the stroke and the top. I put a BBC together a couple years ago, and the crank counter weight was hitting the rod pin boss at the top of the stroke, and pushing the rod over. I had zero play on top and .050 on the bottom. Had to machine a small notch in side of rod pin area.

    hopefully,everything is ok on this side of crank!:D
    after all the times my engines builder had to tear the short block apart because of poor work from the machine shop or clearances they did not check though they were supposed to(meaning a trip to another shop to have the job done right) then power wash the block again,etc...he'd go mad!especially whith that fat girdle plate setting the main caps really "tight" in the block and a pain to remove properly!:eek:
