I have a set of Centerline Convo Pros that I would like to get powder coated to match my front wheels. Has anyone done this before? How do I deal with the certification sticker that the NHRA requires in TAFC? What about the seal material between the halves of the wheels? Any advice or experience would be appreciated. I don't think you'll have much luck on this Dave, I had a Convo-Pro front wheel leak air on me, and never could get it to stop. They use some kind of hard silicone on the seam, and possibly some kind of O-ring between the halves that are riveted together. If they were bolted together it most likely wouldn't be a problem, but with the rivets you're stuck. I tried re-sealing the wheel and never had any luck, when I called Centerline they basically said "sorry, use a tube".

Powder coating your wheels would increase the weight significantly.
The heating process would most likely damage the seal between the two halves.

    Thanks

Thanks guys for the advice. I am thinking the powder coating idea is out the window. It doesn't need to be any heavier and the seal issues concern me also. Dave Germain

    Dave,
Merlo's here in Great Falls, (with the pro-mod) wanted to powder coat there wheels. They called Weld to see what to do about the SFI sticker...... Weld said "DO NOT POWDER COAT OUR WHEELS" not sure if it was the heating them or the seal or what, but they wanted nothing to do with it. So we very carefully peeled the SFI stickers off and painted the wheels. Kinda a pain to do, but looked good when they were done.
    Later,
    Chuck

    PC wheels

If you do paint the wheels, carefully scotchbrite AROUND the SFI sticker, then clean,

tape up the sticker, and paint right over it, the peel the tape off the sticker then clear.

That way the SFI police can't have a fit, with no sticker.

We managed to save the stickers and put them back on with a little clear tape over the top. (Don't tell them, K) haha.

I have sort of decided to bag the idea. You guys have convinced me it's not such a good idea. But I will admit to liking the idea of painting them........Dave Germain
