Depends on why you are attending wether or not you will be happy. I went, I thought the class room part was great, it also got my pallet wet for the feel of a lenco style, blown race car. I wanted my license, and moving from a blown powerglide deal to a car you have to shift was different. Also found out they have installed a kill swith to function in lieu of a rev limiter. Therefore if you miss a window of time from shft light coming on, till rpm set point to shut off the car automatically, yup it shuts off! Be quick! If you are used to that shift by light process, you will have a better chance at not coasting down the track at $800.00 per pass. Still a good experience, dont go expecting license...... some have got them though, most do not.
PS- dont expect to be able to purchase more passes while you are there, they dont do that anymore. You have to reschedule. Or if car breaks, you will have to come back, at your expense to get remaining laps.
STILL, best deal when you dont have a way to get laps in anywhere else, or dont have your own car. Classroom was awesome. ;)

I didn't do the alcohol deal, I decided to do the super comp class and then just do the 3 upgrade passes in my own car. Beckman did our class and I couldn't of been more impressed.

Nick, I did the super comp class about 2 years ago. I never set foot on a drag strip, or even driven a car down one. Frank taught or class. It was very good, in the class room and the driving. I left with my license and felt real good about my next step. About nine months later, I talked with several people about the alcohol program at Hawleys. Alot of people leave with no license and went back once or twice. I found a person in Cape Cod, and went there to license. I spent two weeks there and drove, worked on the car and drove the truck and trailer. I have one pass left to make to finish my funny car license. Then six months later this Febuary, I licensed in a A-FUEL car and drove in a divsonal for a owner in teaxs and also Randy Meyer once. And worked on his clutch at a Natonal event. All of that in two years, so basically Frank Hawleys was very good, because he tought me to focus and other things about being a driver. I also owe credit to Tate Branch, Bob Holley and Randy Meyer. For helping me with my goals and beleving in me. Sorry, Nick for the long story but theres many differnt ways to go. Any Questions call # 618-540-8446 Allan

So on Cape cod you drove for eddie parker? I have known eddie for many years and have considered going to him for help here also. But since I am now located in SC gainesville is closer and the weather is warmer.

Nick what TAD3790's saying is dead-on. I have taken the class, and if you not dead-on on your shifts it's game over. The reason being that they'll have some people come down there and drive their cars and never shift them. They'll just lock-up look down track and never punch it into 2nd or 3rd. So after going trough a bunch of valve train parts, Frank installed a KILL switch. I totally reccomend the class. You going to learn stuff that you never even thought of. Don't expect to come away with your liscense. Your probably going to get 1/2 of it done. But you'll be eager and much more comfortable/ Confident in what ever you finish up in. Good Luck!

I have read all the posts and I am wondering if the alcohol class would do any good for me in trying to secure a ride to enable me to reach a professional level. I have made in excess 200 runs in the mid six second range in a top dragster and am currently building a promod car, in which I am planning on taking it on the maiden voyage in two weeks. I am trying to justify the cost versus going out and running my car or school on a maybe. Please give input any of you pros reading thanks Jim Jolley

Jim, I read you're profile. I know pro's and people that race alcohol. It all boils down to where you want to be. I talk with alot of them on the phone and at the races. In alcohol, it's the same as in the pro ranks. You have a sponsor to bring to the team, or you write the check your self. Theres rides, but are hard to get. And very few out there. Every thing I've did up to date, I paid my own way. I started a year and a half ago, driving to races and also flying to races all a round the country. Such as pomona, houston, chicago, indy, san antio. Even calling people and showing up at the race asking them, If I could drive there race car. I flew to alot of places meeting with people. Even went to Pri shows in Indy and drag racing shows in Atlanta and Northern IL. I've meet alot of people that gave me advice along the way, and pointed in the right direction. Hope this helps a little, I've kind of did this the old way. Any Question let me know. Theres much more I did that I didn't post. I can tell you what worked and what didn't work. Thank you, ALLAN
