I have a brand new GT belt that is fraying small white shavings (almost dust-like) that are blowing all over the motor. It seems to be coming from riding on the edge of the idler pulley. anyone ever experience this?
any help would be greatly appreciated.

yes and it was caused by a slight out of alignment issue with the top, bottom and idler pulley. It dosent take much to cause it.

i have annodized pullies, but a chrome idler. I had the same crank pulley, intake, idler on the previous set up with no problem. I have a 3" idler with a 2.65 belt. it is riding on the rear of the idler pulley and has room to move back and forth on both the upper and lower pullies. i don't understand why it is doing it.

Im betting the intake or bottom of blower surface isnt parallel to the crank, the belt will try to climb to the high side.

I would try turning the belt around and run it that way for a while. The problem might just go away? If it moves to the otherside, you should know what the problem is or was.

    belt travel

Any flat belt will always move (travel) to the side with the most tension. If you had an adjustment you would shorten the tight side. (Or realine an idler shaft if bent) If you think about it, it would be impossible for the belt to travel to the loose side as it would have no drive tension to do so, it can only drive (move) to tight side with the tension. Ask any conveyor repair man.

so what you are saying is that if the belt is moving towards the engine (riding on the edge of the idler on the motor side) that the snout is pointing down or the crank is pointing up in relation to each other?

    belt run out

Yes, the blower could be "down" in relation to the crank. like maybe the manifold is machined wrong. I would look at the idler first to see if the front of it (towards the front of the car) in bent inward towards the blower/crank vertical center line when you have it adjusted in the run condition.

    Pulley Issues

The top of the blower manifold should be cut from .0 at the front to .125 off the back of the manifold . The idler pulley should be crowned in the center so the belt will track properly .

hmmm, haven't heard of this. The last 2 manifolds I machined flat and have had no problems.
