So heres one a them 'everybody knows the answer question' - wat type of oil goes in a regular ol 3 speed lenco? Is there really only one answer, cause I already have 3 from well worn racers.

Same here per Lenco. The viscosity will vary depending on who you talk to there. :D

Both ATF and motor oil work just fine. The big difference is in the viscosity of the oil. Thin oil such as ATF or 20W will allow the clutches to lock up faster and thicker oil will cushion the clutches and lessen the impact of engagement. Both types of oil/fluid supply sufficient lubrication to the bearings.

10w-30 here. I tried ATF but it always leaked a bit because the fluid is thinner.

1-liter in each section and 1/2 liter in the reverser.

    Red Line

We ran Red Line Lightweight Synthetic ATF in our CS1 3 speeds last year in Chris Fosters car and probably had the least amount of transmission problems we have had in the past few years. In years past we had just put the cheap off the shelf 30wt.

For the record to answer your question when I worked for Steve Harker, the Lenco fluid is all he ran, so it works well also.

Thanks one and all - seems a lot of personal choice as well as some logic. Interesting that no-one has said 'use whatever is in the motor' as I was told originally, which would be 50 wt.

According to Lenco the 50w oil is a little too thick and the other problem is it is so thick it will rob power from you.

We have always used Lenco, but it does look like a hydraulic fluid.
