Pulled from the SFI 34.1 Screw Blower spec

    2.0 DEFINITIONS

2.3 Any supercharger pertaining to this specification shall remain as constructed
by the original manufacturer and not modified.

This is where pulling it apart becomes the gray area. Roots blower people don't have to worry about it because, well, they aren't under cert.

    Tear Downs

First off i don't know nothing about nothing but i do know all this started after gainseville!
God forbid a team whom has struggled for 2 years with a car that won't work for you and a combination that won't work with the car finally after alot of long hours as we all put in and research got our s@#t together. We have been checked atleast 3times this year but not to the extent we were in pomona. Take the hat off and template the rotors take 50pic's and send us on our way is one thing but disassemble the friggin thing on a fold up table out side is a bit much. oh yeah and then ship the thing 3000 miles in cardboard boxes in a million pieces with a yeah you guys are good to go. way to kill a pretty good weekend for us. I do not EVER recall seeing 2 funny cars and 2 dragsters towed back to there trailer without blowers on them. I guesss the did what they had to do but if we got tagged for once in our racing careers for running 262 in killer air on a killer track then every one should have been checked! We in the Gill camp are proud of what we have accomplished this year and are privelaged to work on Paul's car. He is dedicated to running the quickest and fastest we can to get the job done and that will be always without stepping over the illegal line. As my team mate put we would rather quit all together if thats what it takes. Just one more thing thanks to all the west coast teams for the kind words this weekend we thouroghly enjoy running with you all!!!!

    Thanks
The last sentence of Screw Type 1:10 Supercharger NHRA rulebook; General Regulations:
Any changes to any supercharger design, materials, constrution, etc. after Jan. 1 , 1997, are sbject to NHRA acceptance before being permitted to run.

Aren't you suppose to get payed for being protested, unless you get caught. Who started it.

    irritating

I was told that Jim Collins said there was "one racer who wouldn't be getting thier blower back"

I think it sucks that stuff like this is a big secret. They should tell us all what they found, whom was using what and let it be known that if you operate outside the rules everyone will know about it.

I'm all for the old put up or shut up deal regarding protests. Put up your grand and be prepared to lose it if you're wrong.

I had Collins in my pit on Sunday at the Vegas national event after I raced Jay Payne looking at my electronics box. When I asked him what he was looking for he said "traction control". I asked him who sent him and he said someone "blew in his bosses ear to look at my car and another unnamed tafc" I think that is bullshit. I should know whom is accusing me of cheating and they should have to put up something (money) to get a special look at my stuff. I guess Shelly really thought it was impossible that I could beat them.... LOL!
I would be mortified to be labeled a cheater and would never be able to face "the family" again. If they made this stuff public, people would really think twice before "bending the rules".

How about the fact that Jay's blower wasn't removed and disassembled even though he won the event?? Seems odd that they would tear down racers who lost and not even look at the winner? They tore down Jim Whitely's after he won in dragster. Handling stuff like that makes the NHRA look bad. Even if it's not true it makes it appear that certain individuals are favorites and therefore not subject to the same treatment. I know that Collins is "buddies" with Shelly and I am quite sure he has a very good reason for not tearing down Jay's blower, but like I said, it looks suspect when they do stuff like that. No different than when they go around the pits and tell everyone there is going to be a blower check, duh! Do you think that gives anyone a chance to change their stuff. Seems pretty easy to me to just do a surprise spot check without the heads up.

    Say it isn't so...........

Clint, just curious. So I, or anyone reading your post doesn’t have to read between the lines, are you saying that the reason Collins gave you a visit was because Jay and/or Shelly asked him to. I didn’t think that was possible without a formal protest. I agree 100% with your statement that you should know who it is that is accusing you of cheating. Thanks for the clarification.

Usually the guy that got beat was cheating and cant figure out how he got beat, so he thinks you were cheating because he was and you beat him, Get it? :p;)

I am only ASSUMING it was them. Collins said "Someone blew in my boss' ear to check yours and one other TAFC" seemed ironic that it came just about 30 minutes after we raced them. My issue is that I don't even get to know whom my accuser is, hence having to assume and possibly incorrectly I might add. I have no problem with Jay or his team, in contrary I like him and JR and respect them all as good racers. I don't have a problem with being questioned or inspected, but do feel strongly that it should be out in the open and fair. What do you think "they" would do if I asked them to inspect Jay's car? LMAO. I'm sure they would get right on it.

I also think that when there are inspections such as in Pomona and they find illegal parts that we should all be made aware of whom and what is being deemed outside the rules.

not trying to stir the s-%$, just speaking my mind on the subject.

And to add,..especially if a manufacturer has favortism torwards a select few competitors to get the modifications advantage or disadvantage or not, the mods being available also to everyone did not happen or news of it was not released to all.
Eitherway the mod was deemed Illegal because the original cast case was modified after it was already produced and has not had any tooling changes done to the original spec cast case.,...Monopoly sucks,..!!!!

    who knows?

I had a phone call today that indicates it was probably not Payne's team that requested my car be inspected. Doesn't totally clear the air but indicates it may have come from somewhere else. Either way really doesn't matter, I'm not in the slightest bit upset about being checked. I guess it just makes my point of knowing who so there is no guessing.

Since your blower was returned to deemed ok, to you as a basket case, then who pays to put humpty back together?
just asking as we know how cheap it is to do this...

I Would Hate To Be That Person Who Wants To Buy A Blower!

Just in the middle of making an add to sell my Kobelco K11 and injector (Al Billes Pro Mod stuff) and my PSI Roots with Knutt long nose injector to turn around and buy a D screw blower kind of like the one someone is advertising on the classified adds with PSI case mods??? Finances have kept me and my car out of NHRA for two years but considering returning for next season. At one time you had to make sure the blower would pass recert before purchasing (so you would ask the person to ship it to PSI before buying for OK) Now what? Could you send your blower to PSI to make sure they will recert it then have them ship it to Glendora to make sure it will pass tech? Then back to PSI for reassembling?? Or buy new I guess?? Then send to Cantrell.
    Wow??
    Any suggestions?

Personally I have one chance at getting the correct blower!!

    Screw Job

    Paul,
In my opinion, the best way to get a really good screw without getting screwed really good is to call Kevin Cantrell. He usually knows where there are used blowers for sale and where they should fall on the critical specifications chart.
Afterwards, I believe Kevin makes your PSI the best "legal" screwcharger it can be. I have been using his services for around 7 years now, and will keep paying him to service my PSI.
    Good luck,
    Marty Thacker

my blower was not inspected. I lost first round on Saturday. they didn't start pulling blowers until sunday. However, Collins said that the NHRA was going to pay to have the blowers reassembled at PSI.
