    G'Day

I am about to fit a RCD gear drive to a BBC Callies crank. The crank gear has two key ways and RCD provide two keys. The crank as it came is double key wayed for the crank hub but not the gear drive. RCD told me I could get away with the one key but I am not convinced but want to get this thing together. Any opinions or horror stories?

Blown car use two keys on the crank hub. One is fine on the crank gear.

Put the key in the stock location then install the crank gear.
Degree the cam now (so your crank turning socket will go on).
Put the other key in and shorten it as needed. It will hold the gear in place.
    Install the blower drive hub.

You can also grind the second key so it goes under the gear after it is on and fills the space but that makes getting the gear off later a pain but makes getting the hub on easy as both keys are held in place.

Some gear drives like the Milodon one you will want to shorten the key before you degree the cam as it is done with the cover in place.

I've only ever used one key on the gear. The only time I've cracked the gear is when Donavon said I had the press fit too tight.

    Cheers....

When I started racing we ran an Aussie car called a VH Commodore so I wanted something to incorporate the VH. I don't have the car anymore but the name stuck...
