Hey guys looking for a setup that stops the Air Sifter lines, to Steering Wheel mounted shifter buttons getting caught up?

    Is there anything available?

3 speed Lenco, so 1 button each side of the steering wheel.

    thanks in advance

We run them through the back of the steering wheel and through the steering shaft. They come out (on a dragster) in front of the footbox then pass through the chassis. You can loop the two together on the steering wheel and you'll have one less line. I can take a pic if you need me to.

    Good Luck,

    shift lines

Barry Little at SAE in Santa Ana ca makes a shifter manifold that will cure that problem.
Mounts between the worm gear shaft and the steering column . the lines the the shift pods on trans stay stationary , the lines to the shift buttons move with the steering wheel

The manifold becomes a maintenance item. If the Orings crack, it leaks air, if the orings swell, you can't steer the car. Personally I would just figure out a way to route them without the manifold...

You are right Will, and also the fact that a proper seal with an O-ring was never intended to TURN ! I don't think SAE Barry has even bothered to make them for over ten years.

I have had several of these - SAE and billet aluminum JD2.....both are sold....they both worked well but you really cannot remove the steering wheel if the air lines are running tightly against the steering shaft....we just let our lines wrap around the shaft as it turns....with plenty of slack....works great...

If your steering wheel is not gonna be removed when you get in and out of the car....then I would recommend the JD2 aluminum manifold....

Thanks again for all the INFO.

After hearing some of your Pros, and Cons, the last thing I need is another problem if the O-Ring leaks, and don't need to get the Steering wheel off.

Do you have a Link, or Picture of the JD2 one?

Maybe I should just leave the lines long, and loop the around the steering shaft.

I was looking at the new dash 3 and 4 quick connect/disconnect fitting, that are rated to 15000PSI, was thinking maybe using 3 of those, connect before, and disconnect after the run.

It mainly towing around the pits, and sharp turns that is the problem obviously.

    Chad

Thanks again everyone, for your help.

Been using the Barry Little SAE Shift Manafold for over 15 years. Never had any kind of problem with them. Never a leak of any kind or Oring problem. Take it apart once a year and lightly lube up the Orings.

We put one on the new car just 2 years back so I assume Barry is still making them.

...and yes the steering wheel comes of easy. I wouldn't have used one if it didn't, nor would it pass tech if it didn't.

I can post some pictures if need be. A little slack in the lines and it comes right off. I'm a bit confused on how the shift manifold causes a problem with the steering wheel being removed?

Kevin - we could remove the steering wheel....but if the air lines are tight against the steering shaft there is not enough slack to get it on and off.....if we used a pair of 90 degree push lock fittings to get the air lines away from the steering shaft, then there is slack in the air line but they are short and we worried about kinks (we put a ton of little kids in our car and the steering wheel comes on and off a bunch of times at a race)....so now we just use real long lines and let them wrap around the steering shaft.....plenty of slack to lay the steering wheel on the trans or hang it on the shaft when removed....

After reading this gave me an idea...
If you just make lines loose as mentioned with no manifold..
why not have a second steering wheel? that clips on for tight corners and pits etc.
just put the steering wheel that has the shifters/lines on only when you race the car.

    Theres my easy fix.

    Thank you....

amazing how the simple, SMARTEST, and EASIEST solutions, are so hard to come by.

I even have a Spare steering wheel here, that I don't use....

Unreal, can't believe I never thought of that myself.

Thanks, mate, solved all my problems.
