9 inch ford pinion support question

Dumb question, does the oil hole in the pinion support go up to catch the oil, or does it go down to drain the oil. I think it goes up to give oil to the front pinion bearing.

 

Up is correct, that way the oil slinging off of the ring gear is "pumped" into the pinion bearing area and is forced(more or less) to flow back through the bearings.
