I notice there are a lot of fuel dragsters going to, what looks like, a wider front tire. What is the deal with that? Why the change?

I can only find the goodyear front runner (2.25")...that I am already running.

    Anyone shed some light?

    Thanks

They went to the 4.00 tire several years ago, I've been running it since late 2008, unless there is a newer tire since then, still bulges a little on my heavy a$$ altered, even at #45. Their reasoning was the extreme down force with the big front wings, mine is at 125" wheel base, there is still a lot of front end weight with a Hemi, 14 gal. tank, fire bottle, and dry sump tank up front. BTW the 4.00 tire is now readily available.

As stated above, everyone went to the big front tire because of the down force the front wings are creating. With the small front tires just about anytime you went over 300mph the middle of the tire was torn out and most teams only got about 3 runs out of them if that. The 4in tire you can get about 30 runs out of it in a fuel car as well as the car driving much better. Most alcohol dragsters do not use the 4in tire because it does weight more and there is no problems with the small ones due to the smaller wings and slower speeds. However, in the small front tires or 4in front tires most T/F cars run 85psi in them. I have even run 90 in them.

WOW!! Had no idea they would take that much.....probably explains why mine still have a slight bulge. Thanks for the heads up. :)
