Has anyone installed new compression rings &/or oil rings without honing an engine?
Sometimes don't have time to pull crank to clean bore.

    Thanks

    Rings

We install new rings all the time without re-honing the block and have no problems. Rich

we do it all the time also ..but some times I will hit it with the ball hone.something else to try is when you either get new sleves or you hone some always use tranny fluid and toilet paper pour the tranny fluid on the toilet paper and wipe them out, that is the (only) thing that will get all the honing grit and grime out...try it you will be amazed..dave

We use the soft squishy ear plugs and plug the holes in the crank. We use the Sunnen hone on a drill and hone and dial bore the cylinder if we need to at a race. If real bad, we replace the sleeve. We use Type F transmission fluid as we hone and a hand pump pressurized bug spray canister full of mineral spirits as a cleaner when we are done.

If we simply lost ring tension, we just replace the rings and move on.

    Never a problem...
