Van Norman FG5000 just bought, any pointers?

    Just purchased a used FG5000 to grind flywheels, clutches and floaters. Anybody have any tips for a newbie?

    Those are great machines. It's the one with the table support.
    Keep that oil cup filled.
    They are a pain to keep clean but if you modify it with more than one fluid line and/or up the pump capacity the cleaning gets a little easier by doing a better job of washing the garbage out. Just remember to clean out the reservoir regularly. They can get real rank.
    The air stream tends to blow straight up. A piece of plexi over the top keeps the fog/crap from going all over the room.
    Usually, Floaters are done wet, discs are done dry.
    Other than that I got nuttin.

    If there is no one else in the area you might as well pick up some extra coin by learning to do regular everyday flywheels. Diesel stuff pays well.

    Just be sure you understand the Ford diesel pickup "dual mass" flywheel. ;)

    Ok, I see the basics. It's a step flywheel so at least 2 surfaces and height must be corrected.
    Can it be taken apart to surface the other 2 potential surfaces or cleaned or it that a non issue?

    Whats the best way to cut floaters and discs? Setup on an old flywheel or straight to turntable?
