I was told today by Bob Stroud of Stroud Safety, that my 14.1 roots blower restraint could not be recertified or re strapped because it was a "counterfit" restraint. He went on to tell me that the slotted holes for the straps were not as large as they should be, and his restraints had much larger slots.

I mentioned that the restraint says "stroud" stamped right into the aluminum. He says it was not his stamp. I said that Stoud certified it twice before already. He said his staff must have missed it. Twice. (!)

So fellas. I never bought this new ... 6 years ago..., so I suppose he could be telling me the truth...... but I know the guy who I bought it from... and he is a straight shooting , bug buck, best of everything, no expense spared, kinda guy.

Was wondering if anyone else has a problem with "counterfit" parts, or if they ever had a mint, blower restraint that's never ever been banged, unrecertifiable?

Also... anybody know the number or web site for DJ Safety? Gonna need a new restraint and a couple of 'Chutes/bags/pilots.......

Yeah, I have to "chime in" here as well, I bought one of the new "be all to end all" stroud chutes with the built in "launcher" [no pilot] and I wasn't really sure how to pack it [I bought it used]. I called Stroud and they REFUSED to tell me, then went on to tell me that if I sent them $25 US plus postage they would send me packing instructions, I told them "for $25 I could pay someone to show me", and hung up.

I was REAL un impressed with Stroud, and wont use there stuff on principle.

I posted on another thread, so, not trying to "hi jack" this one, but, if anyone has a -15/20 suit that would fit me, let me know, 6ft2, 2oolbs, THANKS!

Got to go with Dennis Taylor stuff! When I had a minor problem with something that happen at his operation, he took the time to call me and corrected it right away. Great service from a fellow racer. He is very hands on. Good Luck! Brownman (and the FNG's) :D

Yeah, I'll jump in on the Taylor band wagon. Can't go wrong, if ya use the right guy, and DT is the right guy...

About SFI: Sev years back I was in the market for a SFI rated fire suit. Yeah, there's Simpson, Diest, etc. Wanting the best protection for my butt, not my buck, I called SFI. Asked B. Coon about which suit offered the most heat rejection / protection. Reply was 'they all meet the spec's.'

Next was; which one is the highest rated? Reply was 'I can't tell you that.' Why not? Cause I don't recommend one brand over another. Well I didn't ask you to recommend such, just which one was the highest rated... Well thats the same thing! So OK, I finally got a answer that I wanted by doing the lawyer thing; ask questions that I knew the answer to. This let me get the name that I was looking for, the mfg that exceeded the 'minimum' specs the most... I say minimum cause that is just what they are, a threshold that must be exceeded or no pass. Like a high jump with the bar at 10'. Jump over 10' and your in the club. I wanted the 15'-9" fire suit, and got it...

NOTE: Not bad mouthing Bud Coons. He has done a good job in a bad situation...

OK I'll give them a call. But what about this "counterfit" restraint stuff. Bob Stroud says he see LOTS of counterfit safetey equipment. Remember they have twice resertified this very same restraint.

TAYLOR IS THE GUY TO CALL FOR SURE. HE TREATS RACERS RIGHT. I'VE PERSONALLY NEVER HEARD ANYTHING ABOUT "COUNTERFIT" SAFETY EQUIPMENT, SOUNDS LIKE BULLSH-T TO ME! BETWEEN STROUD, SIMPSON, DEIST THERE SURE ARE A LOT OF PLACES TO AVOID!

Hey, come on now. You guys must have stuff out to DT's getting recertified right now and your just trying to get a discount by saying nice things about his company here.

It works, though. He just gave me 4 parachutes for the Ora Vasquez thread I started. LOL.

just an update. Got a call from Diest. Turns out the restraints were not "counterfit" and they decided to recert them. Was some type of mix up.

On another note, I took your advice and ordered some 'chute stuff from Taylors. Got great service and they promptly shipped my order. Stuff sure is shiney.

WAIT A MINUTE, ARE YOU DEALING WITH DEIST OR STROUD? YOUR ORIGINAL POST SAID YOU WERE DEALING WITH BOB AT STROUD, NOW YOU'RE SAYING DEIST CALLED YOU BACK AND WAS MIXED UP? WHO'S ON FIRST?
