Blown alcohol small chevy, 17-20psi typical.

I'm getting a good puff of oil smoke at the hit, and narrowed it down to the intake guides. They are loose, around .0035 clearance. I know it's not the intake gaskets, it isn't the ring package letting oil by, and the blower isn't leaking oil internally, so it appears to be the intake guides.

    Here's a picture of what i mean:

Think about this ..... your intake is under pressure, how can you be sucking oil past the guide ?

are there some rings upside down ?

I also saw a set of custom small block pistons that the wristpin bore actually broke thru the top side of the oil ring land and the problem didn't get noticed till after it was torn down a few times .

it oil puffs when you wack the throttle, not under throttle. I have manifold vacuum at idle, not boost.

If it isn't the guides, what are some of your other opinins? Rings are verified in correct, leak down is <2%.

What blower is this? I haven't seen too many that will give you a vacuum in the intake manifold at idle and yours is a small motor so it should maintain a lot of boost. So you may just have two options.....increase boost or if the blower is good then you will need valve guide seals.

It's a Mooney ham with recent strips, 374" motor, blower is 17% over right now but it did it at 6 over also.

If you are seeing some vacuum at idle, installing the seals will be an easy to see if that's it fix.
I'd also be looking at a manifold gasket port leak if there's vacuum. Check the plugs and see if it's coming from one or two cylinders only.

Hope to see you at Medford July 1-2.

    Blessings......Ron Clevenger
