I am going to check my pressure at the servo cover. When checking the pressure, do I need to be in gear, or is neutral ok? I intend to check both hot and cold.

Secondly, how do you guys check hot fluid level?

My tranny (or TC) was slipping last weekend. I suspect improper fluid level, but am going to check pressure to be sure.

Slipped in both gears. It was trying to tell me, but I was too busy to notice. It was the first pass of the year, so I had the jitters. When I did my burnout the tires caught earlier than I expected, but I attributed that to my new gears, 4.30 from last years 3.89 set. When I left I thought I was spinning so I lifted and hit it again, in second gear it layed the engine on the limiter late in the run.

i've heard you want the trans off, some say in park. there is about a 1/4 quart different. it'll read higher when you shut it off.

I run about 250# in low gear, off the servo cover. I always check mine warm, and it stays between the low & high marks. no issues.

    Powerglide

Servo cover has pressure in low and high gear. Need min of 220# at idle. Most trans-brakes are designed to run boosted pressure all the time. You can raise the pressure with a bigger boost valve or stronger spring. Boost valve have id groove to tell what size they are.
