In the bottom of a PSI screw case there are cast in divider walls which are designed to mate with PSI's lower plate, creating a labrynth of little passages to distribute discharged air/fuel along the center of the intake manifold volume beneath.

Are these passages intended to even out the fuel delivery, or the air delivery?

Has anyone tried simply cutting a big opening in the lower plate, to get rid of the labrynth passges, and how did that turn out? I picture a bit less restriction in cases where fuel distribution can be corrected via other measures? Any thoughts?

    Thanks.

The book said don't change it. It creates a swirl in the intake and it does even the air out. The book is the only way I know (No experience on the track)

The passage in the front and the middle of the blower create a vortex as they enter into the manifold, if you over fuel the hat, the vortex will cause the fuel to 'fling' out of the vortex, leading to tuning issues. This is what 'they' mean when they say that the PSI doesn't need a lot of fuel through the hat. There are those who have hogged the plate out to match the manifold and they usually run more fuel though the hat as well. Terry at AJ swears that there is a significant gain in doing this. For me, I don't run a lot of fuel through the hat and I haven't changed the plate yet either, I would like to do a back to back at the track and see how it works out.

Not much to see, a Janis modded intake, the rear "square" of the intake opened up to about 8x8, no plate on it.
