I am having a hard time finding anything about poured seats in the rule book... I did a word search on the one online and came up with nothing.

I am getting ready to have my Jet Car go thru its NHRA inspection... The exhibition rule book has nothing in it about the seat at all... I have had a couple people say I will need a poured seat, and I have had a couple tell me, that it is not required any more.

The whole inspection process is turning into being a big hassle... I set up an inspection with the regional tech director ( per what they told me to do in Glendora )... The day before the inspection, I get a call saying they can not certify my car.

Turns out, the region director has to inspect the car personally at the office, or I have to bring the car to a national event.

So, if I am going to drive 16 hours to get a sticker on my car ( that has already been inspected, but I am a new jet driver, so it dosnt count )... I want to make sure all my ducks are in a row so I dont get sent back with no cert.

I have several friends that drive jet cars and none have a poured seat. I drive an alcohol funny car and the rules require I have one. Hope this helps. Kevin

The least expensive is Dave Benjamin. $175 if I'm not mistaken.

Dave's kit is fine but doesn't really provide enough foam if you screw up.

If you can get some nomex type fabric to cover it with this is what I used and there's plenty enough stock to do a test in a box to see how it works and still have enough for two seats.

Use a contractor style trash bag as it's really large and tough enough. Some of the kits don't come with a big enough bag.

After the foam hardened, about an hour, I covered the back of the foam with fiberglass to add strength and then cover the exposed areas in carbon X.

Get the FOAM-0416 item, plenty of foam to play with.
Check with them about getting a tint color if you want it black foam. Comes kind of yellow color.

PS Was much easier to do with the seat pan propped up against something rather than in the car. You're going to cut and trim it anyway so why risk getting some of it on the car.
If you do it in the car, wear a trash bag over your fire suit, this gets messy quick.
Took us 3 trys to get what I wanted.
1st was in the car (total disaster)
2nd was propped up but tried to do it in one pour which was marginally successful
3rd try we poured into the base of the seat, I sat down and let the lower body area start to set up,
followed very quickly by a second pour letting it run down on both sides in the back.
Have something in front of you so you can push back and down as foam will try and push you out.
Don't just tape over things like seat belt holes, tape a small piece of cardboard or tin over those holes.
Don't even think about wearing something like a t-shirt, it does get HOT!

    Directions for ISP's $600 kit
