Anodizing inside fuel cell

    Any of you running custom made aluminum fuel tanks w/ no plating on the inside like anodizing? We had ours done, but modified the tank. Can't find anyone who will do it anymore here in town. Is it even necessary? We're running alcohol.

    Anodizing fuel tanks

    We recommend you anodize the tank. . A good anodizer will need you to have the top off the tank or in 2 pieces to get coverage on the inside . You can then reweld or bolt the tank back together. . We have only the top off the tank and our anodizer is good with that. We reweld the top back on after the process and only loose the top of the tank to the process. You need to talk to a good anodizer.
    The process does do away with alot of contamination. The only other way is look at what the automotive guys do with the E85 tanks. They may have coated ????

    Excuse me for being flabergasted over that statement !
    The man is asking about anodizing, NOT powdercoating or stucco !
    Every fuel tank on the planet has three holes, 1. IN 2. OUT 3. Vent.
    If your supposed anodize guy can't make it sink in the tank, tell him the next time he's in the bathtub to poke a hole in his rubber ducky, and it will SINK ! Heck, a coke bottle only has one hole and will surely sink!

    To answer the question: yes, alky will cause contamination eventually, but if you drain your tank every night (like you should anyway) you can make it through the season, then get it stripped and reanodized.
    For those thinking I'm nuts, alky is extreamly hydrous, meaning it'll suck water out of the air, and maybe cost you a good run, or flunk fuel check ! "Voice of experience"

    Bob you are 100% rite..and ours is done inside and out and NOT done cut into 2 different parts, also if anyone tig welds you no that when it has anodizing on it it is very contaminated..Dave

    tank

    We've always run fabricated tanks of "bare" and clad aluminum. We'll leave it in at a 2 day race.I ran a tank for 5 years made from .040. Never had a problem but we also use a top lube that may help. I've seen tons of bare aluminum tanks and plenty of cracks. I'd rather deal with corrosion than repairing an anodized tank.

    Bare aluminum tank here also never a problem, left fuel in there for weeks

    bare ally here too...but we drain after every event, whole system.
