anyone know a good trick for removing the flange washers that are pressed into the stud holes on a Brad 8 head?

I need to change a few of them out...

    washer removal

I have removed them by taping with a 5/8 coarse tap, just s few turns in then punching them out from the other side, just hit the end of the tap with a soft punch, brass or aluminum

If you have flange washers pressed into the head, do you also use loose flat washers?

No experience there, but aluminium will expand twice as much as steel when heat is applied, so if you warm the head (careful) it should at least go much easier.
We exchanged a couple of pushrod guide tubes this way. They're surely not as 'fixed' as I thought they would be.

You do not need additional washers as the nuts have a shoulder on them. Doug

If you are replacing the inserts anyway, you can weld a piece of threaded rod to the insert, and use it as a slide hammer to pull it out.
