I have blue ones and don't want blue. I was contemplating glassbead blasting the blue off of them and use as aluminum color?

Anyone ever tried something like this and do you have any advice?

have them stripped, not sure i would blast them
if you are going to take them off you might as well do it right!
you might be able to use like a rolock disc to sand them, then polish them

When I didn't want my butterfly blades blue all I did was went to the store and bought some heavy duty oven cleaner (yellow can, blue can won't work) Take the blades out of the hat and spray the blades and let sit for a few minutes. You should almost be able to wipe off the anodizing. Reapply if need be, then just get some polishing compound and apply. Mine turned out great.

Just a word of caution, when you remove anodizing, you are also removing aluminum.

If you remove too much, the butterfly will fit loosely in its location.

Send to Rusty @ Industrial Anodizing in Indy, we've had butterflies re-anodized before with no issues. You can also always just order new ones either raw and have them anodized or they may have the color you desire in stock....RBS would be a good place to check.

We use "chrome" wheel mag cleaner to strip the color off, and then just buff them to a bright polished. Same thing for your aluminum fittings.

Caustic soda will do the trick. It's used in oven cleaners, but also in the pellets / liquids used to clean the pipes of your toilet / sink. A couple of minutes should do (don't overdo it) and rinse well with water afterwards.

Make sure the right ones go back in the same holes , dont blast them , it will alter them too much.
    Use a cleaner as mentioned.

A local store has "Chrome Polish" or "Mag & Alum Polish" or "Wheel Cleaner", these are all Mothers products, which are you talking about?

    I use Eagle One ?

Look on the label at the "Chrome Cleaner" type stuff. This is not to be used on aluminum as it is acid.
It will clean the rust off wire wheels !

You can DA sand the face of the butterfly also, just stay away from the edge. I've done like 6 Birds worth of polished butters, never had any problems ?

    Maybe lucky ?
