Hey guys. Im running a Blown Donovan in my car at the moment and Im selling it off. It makes about 1400-1500hp. I also run a 4 speed lenco. Im from Australia and the class I run in is called Supercharged outlaws and it is a D.Y.O class so consistantsy and good lights are the key but at the same time I still want to go fast. Im thinking about going down the lines of a BBC and a transbraked glide. My car weighs 2650lb with me in it. I would like to make around 1500hp but dont want to do to much maintanence, I would like to run a low 7. I dont have the biggest budget if I did I would be going a BAE. Can you make this power easy from a BBC and what do you need engine wise? Any idea on prices?
    Thanks

We ran a short deck BBC with big chief heads for years. I would suggest a tall deck (at least 10.2) Mine was put together with Ebay GRP rods, Cheap Chinese 4340 crank, used pistons, used lifters, used cam etc....Not sure what kind of a budget you have but ours was minimal to say the least. We had (and still have) An old SSI 14/71 HH and a Enderle BAU. I would stress using a .904 lifter and 7/16 pushrods for the valvetrain as this was out weakest link. Also a min. of .200 wall piston pins if your gonna use 990 pins and a piston designed to handle high cyl pressure.(low ring lands, thick crown etc...) We turned the blower 32 over and made around 2000hp. We tried to make more power a couple of times but had issues with pistons, rods, etc.... Again, We were using used parts so we were taking a chance to begin with. All in all I would say I had about $12K in the entire motor hat to pan. I recently switched from a BBC to a KB/Veney Hemi. Unless your dead set on a Chevy I would suggest looking into a Hemi. Much more reliable and will save you $$$$ down the road. Good Luck.

I would call Billy at Oddy's I think they must have the best BBC blower program in the world after reading all the things I read on here about the guys that switched to a Hemi because of relibelety , we ran a BBC for years using Oddys and doing most of the assembeling and fresh up our self, and when we were under 1800 HP would run all year with only oil changes and adgusting valves every other race and do a check up over the winter, now in the 2500HP and 9000 rpm range we look at the bearings 25 to 30 passes and change the rods every 50 passes.
I will agree we are at the end for more HP we need the Hemi. but my Hemi friends running the same HP and ET spend a lot more time doing maintance, valve adj ,,,,,, then we do. http://www.oddysracingengines.com 716-674-2500

    Engine

Look into a Miner Brothers Engine. Search on here for racers that switched from a Chrysler to the Miner Brothers. They are all happy customers.

You don't need a big budget or a BAE engine to go hemi. Find an old KB engine stage 3 or 5. I got my whole engine turnkey for $15k and ran 6.80's all year with no parts useage or strip downs, just adjust valves/check bearings and change oil, chevy guys were constantly rebuilding all around me. Do yourself a HUGE favor and get a hemi. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Im hearing you. I guess I still have the clutch issue though. How much are second hand brunos or Lencodrives? Can either be adapted to my Lenco, it is a course spline CS1. Can you seriously get KBs hat to pan for that much? Im in Australia so its a little more but that sounds good. I really need 1500hp-1800hp

Anthony Begley has all his AA/Fc stuff for sale in Perth. Hemi, psi etc. 0418 924 354

nice user name, I tune and help a team in WA with a 37 chev A481x + lenco drive in outlaws. 37481x just doesnt sound as cool!!!!

We purchased the johnson motor low run for less than 20k landed, most parts brand new. We spin it to 9000rpm all season with a low boost (26-29lb)16/71. With minimal maintance, doesnt kill springs or bearings and it runs 6.5z@209 all day long. I have worked on lots of hemis and I reckon you could not buy a better bracket motor than the 481x.

Google Kelvin Lyle or Gardiner broz for videos

19000-20000 landed would be ideal for me.

$15k is what i sold my turnkey engine for, so yes they are out there, i got a just ran stage 3 short block once for $4k, and no worries on the trans you can use a PG on a hemi. I used a mikes's powerglide with a jw case and bell and a continental converter. how is your exchange rate?

I run 3 BBC engines on a pulling tractor that make 1800hp on a certified dyno, we run them all year long, adjust the valves, check the bearings mid season. 8-71 Littlefield Hi-Helix, Brodix BB2xtra CNC, Mallary 4, Gerardo Injectors. Valve springs last forever. I have a friend that quit racing and has 2 for sale that are professionally freshened. I believe they are under $20K each ready to run.
Side note, Billy Leverentz BBC program is assume and his Hemi program is very good also.

The exchange rate is great at the moment. So Im thinking 1500hp from a BBC shouldnt be to hard with to much maintnence? Does any body no of any?
