Burst Panels And RTV

    Now that I have 2 double burst panels in this thing I have (4 panels total), was wondering if I can run the burst panels without RTV to save time and the mess.

    So, the question is do you run the burst panels without RTV and do they seal okay or is RTV needed to seal them? All the machined surfaces are flat.

    I have seen gaskets for burst panels,flatout make them I think?????? this may be a good alternate!!!!!!!!!!!!

    sealer

    never use sealer, never had a problem on psi screw or nfc

    burst panels

    Now that you have double panels you might want to check your rules .I believe that only three panels are allowed seperated and not glued together.

    They are not glued together but in two tandem cages with a seperation of 1" between the panles in each cage. Thanks for the tip about the rules, didn't catch that as it was buried in the general regulations section. So now that I’m educated in the rules, why can you have a dual burst panel in the blower and not also in the manifold? Isn't the dual burst panel's purpose to save a run from a fatigued/weak inter-panel bursting? If you bang the blower it should pop both panels or in this case, all four. What am I missing here?

    I’ve always used a bolt with RTV on the head to keep the panel from flexing on the single panels. After some time they still get fatigued and will burst costing the run. Usually at the worst time, like when I’m in the lead. If I don't have to, I’d rather not get into the mode of changing the panel after one or two runs if the dual burst panel will let the inner blow from fatigue and the outer will save the run. Guess I need some more education here why this rule is in place.

    burst Pannels

    2 in the back of the PSI. and 1 in the intake. No silicone just gaskets.

    FWIW

    I don't think you need the gaskets either. just put the panels on there. In the past we have used a little smear of silicone, but don't anymore. really not needed. We run ours ten runs then throw em out. I usually will put a used one on the outside of the blower as it really sees no pressure unless.....boom.

    Like others, we used to silicone them around the seal but don't anymore and haven't for a while. Just makes a mess, and really they're soft enough anyways - if there were to be a small surface imperfection it'd likely conform to it anyways since there are so many bolts holding it on.

    The only silicone that's really needed is on the center bolt to prevent deflection in and out with boost pressure. Now, that being said, we don't silicone that anymore either since we started making a burst panel inner frame that bolts on behind the plate and is the same shape as the inside of the panel (with a little bit of clearance, of course).
