welding coated headers??

    i want to replace the bends on my funnycar headers that have been hpc or jethot silver coated,,,,,,,,,any tips on getting it off so i can tig weld on them.........thanks

    What we do is cut it where you want,then put in blast cabinet and jus take it off about 1" back then weld back. If you are not going to coat it back then just take it all off.

    Sometimes after headers have been coated, even if the coating is removed, they are tough to weld. If you find that the area under repair is spattering and not behaving when you are trying to tig weld, I recommend getting some silicone bronze tig rod. It flows really nice and is very strong, welds like steel.

    ok i will try doing that.......did you get a nice weld or did it look like monkey snot:cool:

    thanks ken........i have went and found some of those bronze silicon rods,,i will try both methods and let you know ,,,:eek:
