Will the 8973 box work without a crank trigger?

    Thanks ITA!

Absolutely. Hooks right up, cabling included in the kit. Nothing difficult.

But, your timing will still jump around just like it does now.

I think hes saying if its hooked up to the mag directly its not as stable as running a crank trigger, the crank trigger is rock solid, the mag internal pick ups float around a bit

I don't think it is the mag's internal pickups floating around that causes the instability they a rock solid. I believe it is all the slack in all the gears coming from the the crankshaft up to get to the mag drive unit including the mag drive unit itself that causes the timing to move around. That is why using the PSI Mag drive unit helps so much because it is better made. By moving the pickups from inside the mag down to the crank trigger bypasses all that gear slop. Now you are putting the timing light on the same source as the pickup so it is stable. The only thing that effects the timing now is torsional twist of the crankshaft while under power and if you have a ignition timing recorder on your Racepak you can see that.

And yes the 8973 is still being sold. (for now).

    should have been clearer
of cource the mag pick up is rock solid inside the magnito,
as mike says its the gears fromthe crank to cam then the gear to the mag drive that cause all the floating around exactly as Mike says
