I've been trying to decide what slicks to order. So I thought I'd ask the experts.

The car - 265" RED, 452 ci TFX, BAE5s, PSI D, Lencodrive 2200lbs - running in our fast bracket - rpm max 8500 on SpinWerkes 15x15 beadlocks - intending to use 34.5X17X16 tires.

We had Goodyear's on it when I crashed 2 years ago.

I was going to order the new Goodyear D2622s but they've been temporarily withdrawn as the PM cars don't like them, so the choice is D1022 from Goodyear (the D1490 has been withdrawn too) or Hoosier 18790s. The Hoosiers are $260 a pair cheaper.

Are the Goodyears that much better?

    I use M/T 3186 - 17 x34.5 x 16 on my dragster with alomost the same combo and I have been .923 60ft on them !
    They were designed for beadlocks

Hoosiers run really well on blown PMs. The contact patch is very different to a Goodyear and will take some getting used to. I love the Hoosiers as a vast majority of blown PM cars do. Take a look at all the winning blown PMs and they have Hoosiers on them whereas a lot of nitrous PM have Goodyears on them. Start out with 6 psi for max tractions and come down a quarter pound at a time while watch your half second wheel speed. If you want more wheelspeed then reduce the pressure to cup in the middle of the tire at launch.

I run a similar setup to you (BAE, Screw, Lencodrive, 2100 lbs) and to me the only choice is Hoosier 2055. Mike is correct, start at 6psi and lower it until you get the wheelspeed you want. The few alky cars I've seen run the GY's have been chunking them, the Hoosier appears to last a lot longer and like you said, it's cheaper.

Dont try to run those 15x15 wheels on a 34.5-17-16 tire:D

Didn't even notice that....yeah that'd be one way to increase wheelspeed.

Sadly it's not a metric measurement...

Simple stupidity. What I meant to type was 16X16.....

Hi Martyn , its been said a few times already. Hoosiers are the Tyre (Tire) of choice for all the quick blown PM cars. I would like to try something else as a comparison , but dont have that luxury.
    Good luck this year...Wayne

    Thanks for the help

Looks like I'll be ordering a set of Hoosiers then.

Didn't get on with them on the old car - wasn't until the end of the season that they started to hook, and by that time, I'd ordered a set of GYs... That's why I'm wary.

I know most of the BADs run the Hoosier. My only experience was with GY on AFuel, and they certainly blistered (chunked) ....

Move tire psi around, add until you get traction. Perhaps more timing at the hit, perhaps less. You should be seeing something like 2500 driveshaft speed @ .5 and 3500 @ 1.0. If you want to send a Racepak Graph with notes on the setup I'd be happy to take a look at it for you.

Thanks, Brandon. I will take you up on your offer - but I won't have any data until we've run the car again - only worthwhile pass we made 2 years ago was the one I crashed on (holed a piston, pushed out the rocker cover gaskets and oiled the tires). We were running a air throttle then and (we think) the vacuum from the blower was stopping the butterflies from opening fast enough so it crawled out the hole - still had only part throttle past the 60 foot beams....
