Sounds like cutting it too close, 7 gal would be better  Ours holds 4 gal, uses 3 gal in the 1/8th mile, switching to 7 gal for 1/4 mile use, can't risk sucking any air / going lean, at WOT

The problem is not if there is enough gallons per run. It is where you cannot suck air into the incoming line or the thing goes way lean, and creates problems.
So you need enough fuel, plus enough extra to make certain that you never suck any air in the entire run, no matter the shake, pedaling, etc. And that is why you are probably going to need more than just a 4.

Like Wannabe said, you dont want to pickup air...ever.

Our tank holds 4.7 gallons but its tall, narrow and baffled so the fuel dont slosh around, we can burn it almost gone and never have air problems. We use about 3-3.5 gallons in the 1/4, but you will find that you burn more during the burnout/staging than you ever will in the few seconds at WOT. We barely see a differance in fuel use between 1/8 and 1/4 mile, its there but not as much as you would think.

In a perfect world 4 gallons is plenty, but this world is not, 4 gallons is cutting it too close, IMO. Just in case you sit and idle for 30 extra seconds while the guy in the other lane is taking his sweet time backing up, extra fuel is nice to have. Or when you are sitting in the lanes when there is an oil down and your motor cools off more than you like its nice to be able to start it a little early to get that heat back.
