I'm running a 388 cube small block Chev, B&U (alcohol) injection, 10-71 hi helix (35 lbs boost) - best time so far 7.11 @ 190mph. I'm currently using a SuperMag IV but tempted to ditch it in favour of an MSD set-up to use the two-step limiters, and other bells and whistles...

What is the opinion out there whether I really need to go to a ProMag, or would an MSD 8 plus do the trick - apparently you can't get the MSD 10 plus anymore

    Cheers

we ran a sbc 50lbs of boost, roots, with a 8 box and a 7531, all bell you want and then some... we switched to a BBC with roots 40lbs of boost, same iginition worked awsome, put a mag on it no differance in performance...

Will definitely let you know if I decide to. Ideally I'd like to sell it complete with the Dunn Services offset drive and the PSI rev limiter

Well unless you've got a pile of money burning a hole in your pocket, you can probably save yourself a ton of $$ and still accomplish what you want to do. You already own your SuperMag IV as well as a Dunn offset drive and a PSI rev limiter, those are all excellent parts, so if you're wanting to advance/retard timing, why not add one of these units from Fuel Injection Ent: http://fuelinjectionent.com/webstore/product_info.php?products_id=189

Give Spud Miller at FIE a call (or email since you're in NZ), he can probably set you up with whatever you're wanting to do ignition-wise for a fraction of the cost of buying all new stuff. He's extremely knowledgeable about everything magneto and a great guy to deal with. His contact info is on his web site: www.fuelinjectionent.com

I would recommend keeping the mag, I have seen others with blown dragsters max out in the low 7 second range with standard ignition.

I don't the answer but I will say this. Tractorpullers have been using MSD 8's for quite some time on their turbocharged six cylinders. Anymore the norm is 400-500 cfm heads feeding 504 cid and 3 turbos that make about 85-90 psi boost at which point is too much and the engine will shutoff. People blame the ignition and say, "it blew the spark out". I have every reason to beleive them. These things are making 2-2500 HP. The ones that are not limited on the cylinder head are making a lot more HP.
