If it is an engine that you do not check and replace the rod bearing very often then I highly recommended it. If you are changing them all the time then it is not worth it. Normally you just have to change the upper sheels so you can by just the uncoated upper shells and send them to Callico for coating. Also checkout Calico's prices on whole sets.

Calico is the company that does most NASCAR bearings. I have had great success with their products.

Then I would use coated bearings. The will reduce wear on start up and if the oil pressure dips they will probably save your motor.

If you change them every winter, you should know the answer.
    What do they look like?
    Crap? Then coated, yes.
Great, then keep doing what you are doinng.

I agree with Mike, I've seen coated bearings come out after a year still looking like new, the stuff really does work.

But if you've been using uncoated ones without problems, I dont see a problem running them either.

Am I right to assume coating would take away many of the properties I have grown to love about King Bearings?

Bob, I am not sure what you mean by that. The properties of the bearing remains the same. The coating provides a safety barrier if for some reason its makes metal to metal contact with the crankshaft.
