Vacuum pump on a roots blown BBC

    how many of you run a vacuum pump on a roots blower?
    I would like to see how you have the pump and drive mounted.
    Anyone can share their experience with amount of vacuum pulled.
    all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Oddy tried it a few years ago and claimed some gains on the dyno but nothing on the track. Extra weight and expense plus if you wound the motor you will still need all the normal puke system.

    By the rules you have to have 11/4" valve cover vents to puke tank. To use a vac. pump you would need two flapper valves to seal the openings at the valve covers. Too much shit on our cars now to add more. Plus I doubt you would see any diff. in et.

    i want to keep the moisture out of the oil. My puke tank from before never really had any water in it and the oil was pretty milky, even on a real lean tune. Just looking for a better way to skin a cat.
    anyone have pictures or access to these "flapper valves"?

    Call Jeff Fowler at Fowler racing engines, he sells them. ....However with the amount of fuel you will pass through the motor combined with the low overall engine temp. (compared to a gas engine) moisture is always going to be a problem. Hell I think I have two of the flapper valves I never used that I'll sell you if you want them.

    milky oil m

    it seems to me for it to be milky you still have to be getting fuel in the oil from some where it shouldnt make that much moisture like some one said there is enough shit on the motors now are you tring to split hairs you cant gain that i wouldnt think

    we are bracket racing a t/d. I would like to not change the oil after every race. We have run alky for over 10 years. We had one previous experience with a blower, and it milked the oil pretty bad, but the puke tank did not have much, if any, water in it. We have had great experiences with vacuum pumps on non-blown applications. So the natural "want" is to install a vacuum pump on thet blown motor to realize the removal of water from the oil. It is not so much for a power gain, but a maintenence issue.

    Vacuum Pump

    Lonnie Houde Performance had a vac pump on Scott (Name) Screw Blown GTO that worked well. maybe look him up, he can help you.

    I saw this on his car at IMIS show in Indy and I wanted to ask about it but he wasnt around. I wonder if it is just pulling it back to zero or is it actually making vacuum?

    Odds are... that milk in your oil is alcohol not moisture and a vacum pump is'nt make a big difference. When I worked in an engine shop I saw a guy add a vacume pump to an alcohol car and and the fuel contamination got worse because it pulled more fuel past the rings!

    I run a Roots blown BAE in an outlaw T/D car with wet sump and no vacum pump and I change the oil every other race out of guilt ! The Brad Penn comes out looking just like it did when came out of the bottle.

    Its all about your your tune up and ring seal !

    I use to run a vac. pump on an alcohol nitrous assisted motor and kept having lean issues and melting pistons, we put this setup on the dyno and did some elaborate testing and found that even with only 6 or 7 inches vac it was pulling fuel and n20 past the rings and causing a lean issue, we changed the system back to a regular puke tank setup and found our tune-up to be a little on the rich side at w.o.t , reset the tune-up and made more power and got to keep my pistons intact, get some heat in the motor and it wont milk as bad. also the the thread about cooking oil, I tried it and it works pretty good.

    Vacuum

    I ran a Star pump on my blown chevy. the oil looked brand new every pass with about a pint of alky in the puke tank. I ran 2 one way valves between the puke tank and valve covers. Unfortunately, it worked a little too well and sucked the oil out of the bearings and kicked the rods several times before i figured out what was causing it. Oil is cheaper than rods, pan, and block.
