Timing Retard

I'm looking at installing a 8168 timing retard and a 3 step onto my blown altered.
What I am looking to do is as I am running a single msd 12 mag, I want to use both retard imputs that are on the box to have one retard at the launch and the other somewhere past 1000 ft (if needed). I also have an electrically operated shifter, so the three step would be used to activate these three functions at the prescribed rpm. Have e mailed msd and been told that this is able to be done. Looking for feedback, both positive and negative, if anyone has had/has a similar/same set up, or other suggestions if I perhaps should head down another avenue. I have never run a retard system before so it is all new to me.
Car is 125" altered with blown 525" bbc and reid 'glide.
