Hello all pros iam running a door car whith a blown smallblock whith a PSI screw on and making 60 psi boost at 10000 rpm the weight off the car is 2400 pounds and and i got a three speed lenco 2.10 first gear and 4.89 in the axle and 34,5 wheels. The engine is from a TMD team and it is Rick Santos that builds it once upon a time. Here is the question.
They told me to run the engine whith 38 deegres of timing but i have only run it whit 35 degrees of timing and i dont have no problems running it like that .What do you think ?can i go up to 38 degrees of timing and get more power or do i have to have some box to control the timing and in that case how do i wont to control it .Do i wont to take out timing at the start and put it back in? do you take out timing at the shift point? Do you take out timing at high gear ? .My best ET is 6,71 347 KMH
A lot off questions but i wont to go faster and my teacher once told me thats it is no dumb questions.
    THANKS For a great site

38 sounds like alot with a PSI blower. What kind of mag? I have seen 39 degrees work good in a fuel head hemi with a 14-71 on alky with a mallory mag and 34-35 degrees run the same with a msd 44. I use to run more than 40 with a mallory on a 13.5:1 big block chev with over 40lbs of boost. I would first take a couple degrees out and see if it slows down if it doesn't than more probably wont make it faster. If taking timing out slows it down than try putting a degree or two in and see if it goes faster but watch for sighs of detonation like bolts coming loose, grey spark plugs and smashed out rod bearings.

timing control is something I havn't messed with but her is my view anyway; if your not taking it out to control wheel spin like at launch or in the gear change. The motor can't take as much timing in high gear so put as much as you can in low take a little out in second and take more out in high.

Besides what kind of mag your running what fuel pump and how much fuel are you putting in it at 8000rpm?

The static compression is 11.1 and the cranking compression is 205 psi

    timing

The msd 8973 is the most versatile timing control for the promag. You can also move it around with a 6 shooter.
As far as total timing put a little in at a time and see how it responds.
If you can get help from Santos take advantage of it...your setup is not ideal for learning
I wouldn't make any big changes or it could get expensive at that rpm/boost.
