What happens if you push the transbrake button while you are in second gear? It had never occurred to me to try it, so I don't know if it locks up just like first gear, or if it does nothing.

It does nothing. Just like when you stage it in drive. Don

be careful with that quote. Some valve bodies are setup to work in 2nd gear also. I.e. to make a high gear pass. Make sure you ask your trans manufacturer. However, it is a good idea all around to put a lockout timer on the transbrake switch. This will eliminate any accidental actuations. You must also put a manual override on the switch if you are using the button to back up. Most guys will use a toggle switch located in a place that is somewhat difficult to reach. That way, unless you intentionally reach for the switch, it's not likely to hit it.

It always seems like I end up needing to call the manufacturer on a Holiday! Looks like Mike's is closed today (Friday). So I'll have to call Monday to see if this valve body activates in second gear.

The reason I ask is because I am in the process of re-doing my cockpit layout, and the transbrake switch is getting moved. I footbrake, so I only need it to back up. If the transbrake won't engage in 2nd, then I am safe no matter where I put it. I run the 8973 box, and have a two position toggle switch to change between burnout rev-limit and the reset(launch) wire. I slave the transbrake off of the burnout rev side, so since I roll in and do burnouts in 2nd it wouldn't be able to activate until I back up. Then once I am back and ready to stage I flip the switch to the launch side, which deactivates the transbrake completely.

I guess I'll find out Monday and post the answer.

Glide brakes that work in high are pretty rare. Can't go wrong with checking it out tho. Most any guy who drives his car to the lanes etc does it in high to avoid accidental engaging of the TB by bumping the switch when turning etc.

If you always foot brake then you could use a non-Pro valve body that goes into reverse with just the shifter.

Last suggestion, make sure you use a momentary switch not a toggle - you will forget to turn it off sometimes - I learned the hard way.

Hey Scott. I know a TCI brake and a Trans Specialties brake are safe to hit the button in high gear.

I have a launch control on my car, that is activated by the transbrake, and i've used it in high gear many times to do the burnout. Makes a good burnout limiter. Just don't let go of the button while you are doing the burnout...the valve springs don't like it......Motor goes from 6G to about 16G.

Just a capper for this thread. I talked to Mike today, and he said the transbrakes in his Monster Glides do not activate in high gear.

In response to Greg Kelley's suggestion, I ordered a non-tbrake valve body. I didn't realize they were as cheap as they are.

Now my tbrake button on the side of the wheel is going to key the radio instead. Now I can talk on the radio with both hands on the wheel. Giggity.
