I know that painting or coating a chassis will add some difficulties when you you need to weld or repair something but Im willing to deal with it. im thinking about soda blasting mine while i have it tore down & spraying a good poyurathane clear coat on it......Thoughts & ideas are appreciated.

    Clear coating

If you are running in a lower powered class where the chassis won't ever need repairing and you aren't ever planning on adding brackets or moving stuff then go ahead. Otherwise you will hate yourself when it comes to getting the paint (clear coat) out of the joints and crevices if you need to weld it. Not to mention getting a good enough weld done so it doesn't break again. Good luck on getting it repaired between rounds of racing. Also if you plan on selling it someday it would lower the resale value to someone planning on racing it hard. Dave Germain

    fluid film

Try Fluid film. It' what John Deer uses on unpainted equipment when they send it oversees on ships. I used it on my snow plowing equipment last year and my undercarage of the pickup. (no rust) You can buy it ina 12 oz spray can, gal or 55 gal drum. You can buy it at you John Deer dealer or on line. About $8.00 for a spray can. I did my complete undercarage on my truck with 1 1/2 cans

I have done it and I love it.
If you need to weld up an area, just pour a little paint remover on it, then a wire brush or a wire wheel. Weld up the place or patch it and re clear it.
If you take 400 grit sandpapaer and sand the tubing radially and then clean it and clear it, it leaves the coolest look.
But I don't run all out and I don't run .058 cars, so I very rarely need to weld/patch. So take that into consideration.

Corrosion x came in today..... That's good chit... It has a oily feel but doesn't attract dirt or leave a thick residue. That's what I was looking for. Thanks

How come WD40 was not mentioned? Is there a down side to using it?

Ive used it....It would last a short time & then rust again as soon as you put a sweatty arm on it or a really humid day...... Ive got to wonder if i have more rust because i live in the south where its humid or if its because i keep the chassis bright & shiney. I sand it down so it has a bright color.
