I'm not here to ruffel any feathers, I just want everyone to see how the media throws words and titles around when they dont know what they are talking about.

    http://www.app.com/article/20101105/NEWS05/101105026/Neptune-drag-racer-indicted-in-woman-s-kidnapping-

I was very offend that the author referred to this man as a Drag Racer. Maybe its just me. I emailed her explaining that he was not infact a "Drag Racer". Of course I did it as professionally as possible, as I was representing the Sport of Professional Drag Racing.

The authors name is Michelle Sahn and her email is msahn@app.com if anyone else would like to express their displeasure of her use of titles.

    Follow-up:

I heard back from the author of the article. She stated that the Editors pick the title for the article and she would pass along the information. She also said she would let all the other source that article was published in know.

    Hi Mr. Pomponio,
    Thank you for your email.
Actually, reporters only write the stories, not the headlines - those are written by editors. I'm going to pass this along to my boss right now.
Thanks again for writing to us

Pretty cool! I just clicked the link and read the story, and there is no mention of drag racing at all now.

Kudos to Dan and the publication!

I again emailed the author thanking her for her professionalism and understanding in changing the title of the article. A big thank you from the racing community!

Just had a similiar scenario in a local story. This story, http://www.nbc-2.com/Global/story.asp?S=13467655 , was titled "Drag Racer...." ; I emailed them and simply said could you please not title illegal street racing as drag racing because it gives the legitamit racers and races a bad name. - Response was, "fair enough - we'll change it."

It's kinda nit picky I guess, but we don't need negative press.
