Blown KB - what is the recommended clearance and how far can you go prior to bore job and new pistons? Have not checked what it is, just taking apart for the winter. Any input would be appreciated.
    Thanks Pmoore

First off, there should be a spec sheet that came with the pistons. This will tell you where to measure the pistons and what the clearance should be. If you don't have it, then contact the piston manufacturer.

There is no such thing as general rules of piston to wall clearances. It is about the pistons. I have built engines with 10 thou and 2.4 thou piston to wall in the last few months. And they were just about the same application. Just different piston manufacturers. Contact the manufacturer!
They will have a range of acceptable clearances for running your personal application. If you are within those, then go for it.

Did they tell you what it's supposed to measure at 1.100" below the oil ring? If they didn't, then the spec they gave you is worthless.

Not worthless Tony. That is exactly what the builder needs to know. The actual size is measured then the clearance is added to arrive at what the finish bore size would "ideally" be from the mfg point of view.

OR you could assume without measuring that 4.250-.007/.008= 4.242-2.243 piston diam.

How is the builder to know if the skirts are collapsed if he wasn't given the skirt diameter at the reference point? I worked at JE for 8 years, I'm not new to this.
