Hi I have a new 8973 i intend to use on a blown pm car, i currently use a two step/six shooter set up,
the one feature of the 8973 i dont like is that launch rpm is programed and a quick change on the start line as track conditions change is impossible,
As i dont need a burnout limiter, the only limits i need are launch and the top limit,
Is it possible to not use the rev limiting functions of the 8973 by not conecting the unit to the rev limit socket on the points box, and retaining our two step/system that allows a last second rpm change even as you approach stage if nessacary,
will the rest of the unit work properly ie retards ect

    thanks Graham

Graham, there is a small box MSD part # 7551 that is a Rev Limiter Switch Box that can be plugged into the 8973 via the RS-232 cable. According to the MSD guys it will work on the 8973. This box allows you to adjust the Launch Rev Limiter. We used it on the Digital 7 when using nitrous. The 8973 has to be plugged into the chip sockets or it will not work.

I have never used it with the 8973 but MSD says it will work. I will try and call them and ask the back room guys. It may take a few days to get somebody.

OK, Graham, Joe Pando of MSD (Mr. Promag) says that the 7551 Launch Rev Limiter Controller will work on the 8973 and all MSD Digital Programable Ignitions
