Just put the small screws back in the rotors on my blower and one of the inserts is stripped in the rotor. Not the screw or the inner threads but the insert and the rotor itself. ? What do I need to do. Help! Throwdown in t town is three days away !!

    if i'm understanding you correctly...

no worries man.. just knock the cap/plug out of the end of the rotor. drill out the insert and put a nylon-insert lock nut on the inside of the rotor. plug it and put'r back together

if you service a blower a lot it's pretty common for those little boogers to end up all worn out

Just curious. Is anyone concerned about the effect of balancing by adding a nut and extra length thread on just 1 of 3 lobes?

At speed that will have an effect. If curious, give me the weight of the nut and distance from center and I can tell you the result.

Ten years ago we bought 3 brand new LF's. They came from LF with nuts on just some of the bolts, others were threaded into the Kobelco rotor.

I always wondered about the balance also but it didn't seem to hurt.

Given the RPM the rotors turn I think you should be concerned about balance. My recommendation would be to do the same thing to all the lobes in that one rotor. The imbalance may not be noticed right away but after time cracks may develop in the rotor or the bearings my go out.

dave/mike: really good point on the balance issue... seems most of our blowers had them on most of the rotors. i never gave that aspect much thought

promod: hope it helped... i know it's not a very hi-tech or 'trick' solution but it works pretty darn good lol

Alton...should have said somthin' when we were on the phone today.....I've used a #8 screw in place of the #6. Alot less weight diff to worry about than adding nuts to the screws......Marty

Are the rotors ever balanced to begin with?

They should be. Even GM does the oem rotors.

Let me amend that. The cast rotors have to be...because they are cast (irregular). I have never had my hands on a billet rotor. Could be with fine cnc work that everything comes out symmetrical and theoretically correct.
BUT don't hold your breath on that as the length comes into play, just like a crankshaft or a modern wide tire is a 2 plane balance job these days. I run into this with people that make drive shafts. They can be dead on straight and aligned correctly. Beautiful work in other words. They believe therefore that it is balanced. Not so and it usually surprises them when the customer complains.

    Holy &*^%!

How bad did it tear your car up? That is a sickening thing to watch. Are you the driver as well? If that was me I'd have crapped the seat full clear to the seatbelt slots!

yep that was me they said the rear tires was 3 ft off the ground it broke the headers, bent the front wheels, the wheelie bars hit the chute mount and broke it that was actually what kept it from going all the way over, the front clip broke as well as the body in the rear and the windshield the engine and tranny seem not to have hit but it will all have to be taken apart and i am sure i will find other stuff damaged

Yes does anyone have input on this ? 34 cars at the race i was the only one with a single wheel wheelie bar and the only one with a broken one? It was old but do i need to change to a two wheel style ?

I like the 2 wheel bars in a door car i think it gives you more control. btw they make small thread insets to fix the striped out ones on your rotors

I've run the two wheel and a single, prefer the single for weight. Has more room in the trailer and one less wheel to adjust height on!
