What happened to the Indy sportsman coverage on espn2 today? Unless I screwed up, tennis was on 12 to 1:30 pst. Hope they re-broadcast this event but what are the odds that they will?

    Tennis anyone ??

They (ESPN2) showed a taped tennis match because the live one was in a rain delay. Then finally at 3:30 PM Central time they showed a 30 minute condensed version of their 1 hour US Nationals Sportsman show. It was better than nothing but just barely !! Thanks ESPN !!!

    Sponsor feels cheated

After talking with my sponsor and apologizing to them I sent a note to Glendora and recieved this reply:

"This past weekend’s sportsman show, which was scheduled to air on ESPN2 at 3 p.m. (ET), was delayed significantly by US Open Tennis. It ran at 4:30 p.m. and cut down to 30 minutes. ESPN is looking to schedule a make good. I’ll keep the group posted."

I they e-mail me a reschedule date, I'll post it here.

I complain often to Comcast because my DVR cannot be set for a series recording for Drag Racing. I complain to Comcast because they deal with ESPN2 and should insist on running the races when scheduled (they are recorded, after all). I complain to ESPN and to the NHRA.
    Nobody gives a Tinker's dam.
    Now.
They will when there business goes away.
    Cheers,
    Ed

You know, I can understand when a live sport broadcast runs a little over, but to push it back because of rain at a live event and show a previously recorded match instead when you've already passed the allotted time? Thats worse than when they push it for a football game because there's 3 minutes left and the score is 70-7 or poker.

    Dvr!!!

you guys are KILLING me!! if you got a damn dvr, set the recording to the maximum!!! verizon/comcast can add up to an extra 3 hours at the end. i (naturally) start it on time, no laughing, then add to the end. i got to see all the indy coverage!
but when you add 7 hours of pro coverage, and the 3+ hours of sportsman, the dvr gets full fast. but i don't mind bumping out 'positive thinking'!!!

I agree with the post above, Set your DVR for the max.

How long has this been an issue.... FOREVER. Is it frustrating? Yes. Is anything going to be different when a handfull of people send e-mails to ESPN? I doubt it. ESPN does not hate drag racing, they just have a bunch of stuff that is more popular to more people.

I know that when I was 100% involved in racing, I lived and breathed it, and thought others did too. When we quit, it was quite a shock to find out that if you do not seek out drag racing, you will not hear about it. And, that is with the Pro's. Sportsman stuff is not covered anywhere.

I am sure that in other areas of the country, it might be different, but around here there was 10 times the coverage of the local Little League team in the playoff's for the LL World Series compared to when the National Event was in town.

Exactly. That's why I was able to see Will Hanna jumping up and down.

Clearing up misconception about ESPN / NHRA
by NHRA on Sunday, August 15, 2010 at 2:26pm

    RE: ESPN

    Dear NHRA Fans,

I've attempted to address the issue of delayed starts on a case-by-case basis, but I think given the breadth of the confusion I'm going to address it with a post for all of our fans to see and read.

The most important message I want to communicate is that this is NOT an issue that is unique to NHRA, or to ESPN. If you watch college football and basketball and even the great and mighty NFL, you know that are games pre-empted virtually every weekend when one of the early games runs long. And it happens not just on ESPN, but also on Fox Sports Net and CBS and NBC and ABC and TNT. It happens on every channel that has live programming.

The fact is, NHRA fans actually have it BETTER than the "stick-and-ball" fans because, since we're not presented live, ESPN can still show our races in their entirety. In the case of stick-and-ball sports, when they start late, since they are presented live, they are simply picked up in progress and fans never get to see the first parts of the games at all.

So to reiterate, this is not an issue specific to NHRA or to ESPN; pre-empted and delayed starts are simply an unavoidable consequence of live programming, and no sport or channel that carries live programming is immune to it.

Please know, too, that NHRA and ESPN have worked exceptionally hard over the past couple of years to schedule more and more of our races after taped events (usually Poker) to ensure on-time starts, but it's impossible to do for all 23 of our races.

This information may not make you any less upset the next time the start of one our races is delayed, but hopefully if you know you're not alone, and most importantly you know that you/NHRA fans are not being singled out or treated unfairly, the pill might be a little easier to swallow.

    NHRA on ESPN

I set my DVR to record 3 hours longer than the scheduled time on all the events, I get them all that way.
