I am filling an iron block and I am trying to save weight is there a lighter material then hard block or should I only fill the block half or 3/4 full instead of filling the block completely. Thanks for the info

Havent filled a block in years. I would say it is hard to fill just part because it distorts differently while running. You may see some funny ring marks and you need the support at the top of the cylinder.

seen on another site... looks like it might be worth a look/call/research?

"Riolo Racing (Roseville, CA), has some killer epoxy that we're using in all our engines.

It's a two part liquid that's thin and fills easily and completely. A little on the expensive side, but well worth it.

We broke main bearing webs in two identical blocks (enlarged the cam bearing bosses too far), and I experimented with the fill material (Moroso in one and Riolo in the other) by heating, drilling, chipping, etc. The Riolo was far and away tougher than the Moroso. It really clings/bonds well with the cast iron. And it weighs quite a bit less.

    Good stuff, highly recommended."

WE used small Alum. chips from shop to take up some space and save weight. Didnt seem to be a problem. Yes I would fill to top if you are going to fill at all. The cylinder is just a can hanging from deck and the bottom of the block part filled is not filled.
