    entry lists

Frank Manzo is without a doubt one of the best but I don't think that is why folks aren't racing. I think it is simple- no money. Maybe something to do with an economy in the porta-potty, sudden rule changes that cost a bunch of money and purses that haven't increased in years despite the skyrocketing cost increases? All of which contribute to folks selling, staying home or just giving up. Do any of the oldtimers remember anything like this? Please tell me it isn't the end of Top Alcohol racing? the sudden "carbon brake rule" may have caused some problems for some racers. I know one guy who had steels on all four corners and he called Mark Williams and was told $8000.00 to change over his car. That would stop any low buck racer dead in his tracks. not to mention can suppliers keep up with the demand?

I heard the story about the cost of the new carbon fiber brakes yesterday from Donn Hosford and I couldn't believe it! What low buck team could afford that on top of everything else? I know you can't put a price on someone's life but 6000 to 8000 for a braking system will put "brakes" on just about anyone on a budget.

    lets add insult to injury

So today I was installing my brand new carbon fiber front brakes. And imagine this? They won't fit. So I called the manufacturer and was told they won't work with my Centerline Convo-Pro wheels. So the bill just got even bigger because I guess I need new front wheels. Another eight or nine hundred bucks added to the rule change. As the church lady said-"wasn't that special?" ...................Whats a fishing license cost? Dave Germain

    gone hunting

instead of racing I just got my tags for hunting in montana. antelope and deer. at least I can shoot and kill something. and then eat its flesh and... sorry. Im thinking of other hobbies myself. so how much does it cost for a heavy duty chute mount? thats what started all this. NOT lack of brakes. no disrespect intended to mr niver.

    Huh

Whats the big deal? After all, the VAST MAJORITY ALREADY HAVE THEM< right?I just emailed the div office and removed myself from the rest of the season. Some of us also rans just don't have $7000 for all 4 corners right now..I asked them to call me if the date for fronts was to be changed to a more reasonable time frame.I'm not against them, just the timing. The response was" not likely..".I can't wait to see what they spring on us for next year at the last minute. When I got the rear kit, The Strange rep said he had 1 customer that just replaced his aluminum front rotors per 2010 rules and now has to throw away 1 race old front steel brakes and go carbon..could have saved if there was a clue about future possibilities..but he's not the VAST MAJORITY either, so I guess his financials don't matter...there's always next year! Then maybe they'll focus on the pro mod safety issues and give us some recovery time.

I bought one a couple weeks back. $24.00. Had a pretty good weekend too, although we lost one rod and broke another. Then we went to Wal-Mart and bought another two for about $60.00 hahaha!

just glanced at the ta/fc list for Maple Grove. . .7 ta/fc's!. . .wow!. when I was running NHRA I used to worry each year when my grade point count was low. More than once I would barely get in. Even E-town was short cars.

I guess the NHRA will now mandate the Track owners like they do the racers
to make it safer on there tracks. Oh ya, maybe they can also install showers
for those crew members that stay at the tracks over night.

    upgrade a fast car

ok, already running a bracket funny car, say 6.8 to 7.6 range now, so have a good basic car. now im bored and want to go tafc racing, which would be great, right? ok, the difference to me is many, i have to buy 8k in brakes,2k in helmet shield,800 in a seat,2k in belly pans,15k in a psi and pumps,7k in computers,5k in ignition upgrade, and minimum 10k or so in a body upgrade. 800 in a fresh air system, 1500 in a helmet, and probably a few things i forgot, like a titanium clutch for 4k, and assorted other stuff. now, if the car goes 200mph now, is this worth it for me to add all this stuff for another 40mph? seems like myself, barely affording what i have now, to go tafc is not worth the extra money. the payouts are a little more, but frankys gonna have me for lunch. my ego actually can realize what im up against. for a sportsman class, this seems pretty rediculous, and i believe i could go nostalgia fuel funny car racing for the same cost. am i wrong about this? i would love to step the car up and get in on the tail end of some of the weak car count shows, but not really sure if it would be worth it.
