Got brief word that Mark Niver was involved in an accident in Seattle. I don't have any other info other than that, and I'm not really too sure of the accuracy of the aforementioned. If anyone has any info, please inform.

When the Chutes blossomed they ripped from the car. He went head on through the sand trap and into the catch fence. It bent the nose of the car backwards onto it's self. Once the dust settled the car looked like a half used tube of toothpaste. the nose had to bent back off the roll cage at which point a member of the safety safari fired up the portable "cement-type" saw to begin cutting the car. At that point the live feed on ESPN3.com cut away but I could then hear sound of the jaws of life being used. When they came back to action Chris Demke was towing back to the pits and one of his crew guys was standing in the back of the pickup with his hat over his heart and at one point he wiped a tear from his eye.

That is all I got from the ESPN3.com coverage.

My prayers are with Mark, his family and crew. God Bless them.

I am sorry to say that Mark Niver did not survive his injuries from the sand trap incident in Seattle. Mark was the ultimate gentleman, craftsman and racer. My condolences go to his family, friends and band of racers who had the honor to know him. RIP and Godspeed.

What a very sad day. I only talked to Mark a couple of times in my TAD days but I can honestly say that he was one of the nicest guys I have ever met. My heart goes out to the family.

Wow, I'm a loss for words!!

Like everyone has stated, Mark was a VERY GOOD person and would bend over backwards to help others, never thinking of himself.

Mark had done some repairs on my blower that probably cost him more in labor than he charged, yet, ALWAYS treated me like I had spent a million dollars!!

May God be with you, your family and ALL your friends, you will be missed!!

Mark was and always will be one of my heroes of drag racing.
This is the first I have heard of this. I sat next to his family at church today and never heard a word. My heart hurts so bad right now, I don't even know what to think.
Thank you Mark, for making drag racing better than you left it, and every person you came in contact with better as well.

Mark was a class act, with a smile that nobody could forget! He did some welding on my son's jr. dragster a few years ago....and didn't charge a thing. That's the kind of guy he was....always willing to help a fellow racer. I remember being in Bakersfield many years ago and he welded a few bars on my friend's dragster so it would pass tech. Same deal.....didn't charge a thing. He will be sorely missed.

God speed, Mark. And my thoughts and prayers to Tanis and the whole family.

Mark's death is very tragic, and I am extremely saddened. Both my boys drive top alcohol cars, so this really hits home. My deepest condolences to Mark's family.
