We just completed a 2 day school session with a guy who says he's going TAFC racing. He says he's pretty serious about doing it. It's nice to see some new blood come into the sportsman world of serious racing. This guy will do well.
I'll give you a hint on who he is..
He's an Olympic Gold medal winner in cycling, and a personal friend of Whit Bazemore, [dont hold that against him],and Mike Dunn, [my alltime favorite fuel car pilot]...
    Stay tuned....

Scelzi is driving a TAFC this weekend but I would bet it's Lance he is talking about.

    JBJ - No, not Lance....
Did you work at Cone Chevrolet? Who are you?
I was there for a couple years in the early 90's, with Jess Tyree.

Not Lance then I would not have any idea.

No did not work at Cone just bought a lot of parts from you guys for our shop and got your help on some hard to fix cars. Still see Don Barton and John down there once in awhile. Talk to Mike English all the time. I'm just a old CIFCA racer that's getting in to Jr Dragsters now with the my kids and working full time on a A/F car.

Well got to get going as I got to get the truck and trailer of to Vegas today.

P.S Sure a lot of good old fuel funny car races came out of Cone.

I believe that would be Marty Nothstein the best American cyclist not named Lance Armstrong.

Does anyone know what this guy is doing for 2006 ? I heard he was just back at Hawley's making runs and/or testing....and that he is very good.

Olympic gold, silver and multi-time world cycling champion wanting to race an A/fuel funny car.....pretty cool. Hopefully we'll see him at the races.

Let's hear it for the guys who shave their legs! I did that 20 years ago and actually qualified for the '84 Olympic trials, I know the investment it takes to achieve at that level. I believe Marty will successfully transition to racing 4 wheels. Given the fitness level it takes to "swap feet" in an alky car, he should have an advantage over those less physically fit.

Yes, I would agree that he will have a fitness level, that's a given. But again, does anyone know his plans for 2006....I think someone like this could help boost the popularity of the alcohol ranks....imagine the media coverage a driver like this will receive. Is he racing 2 wheels or 4?

Spoke with Marty at Reading National event....great guy-kid, very humble. I told him if I had an Olympic Gold Medal I would be wearing it at all times. Told me there are several things happening, including a possible ProMod ride. He is very excited about getting a chance to drive. I think a fresh face like this is going to help the alcohol ranks. He sounds very motivated to race. Stay tuned. Again, I think a guy like this, if he drives a TAFC, is going to get us some much needed attention.
